Wednesday, May 26, 2004Just a quick note... I'm sending the blog down to triple-A for a couple days so I can fully enjoy my mini-vacation. Sure, I could write tonight, but I'm lazy. I'll catch up on Monday or Tuesday. Even though I won't be writing, I predict that if I were, it would include: - me talking shit about people at work and/or school - sorta-funny stories about said people - self-deprecating references to my A) financial situation, B) writing ability, or C) sex life - a shout-out to the Red Sox - a draft of my email proposal to Norah Jones. It's very convincing. Anyway, I'll fill in all the blanks next week. Goodbye for now... |

Tuesday, May 25, 2004"Why the fuck can't we get some better pictures of Neptune? Jesus Christ!" - DaneI refuse to get sick again. Especially two days away from the arrival of one of my best friends from New York, and three days away from my coveted three-day weekend. So I'm rallying the white blood cells, the orange juice, the bargain aspirin, the vitamin C and the Albertson's-brand imitation NyQuil to combat what so far seems to be a relatively minor cold. I got the first hint of it on Sunday, and it should be vanquished by the time Vicky gets here on Thursday night. NyQuil NyQuil NyQuil, we love you, you giant fucking Q! Today was one of those days that, as I've gotten older, I've learned to just write off halfway through and figure I'll get 'em tomorrow. Head colds will do that to you. So right around the time I was being told by Freakshow that I wasn't working hard enough, I was mentally handing the game ball over to my coach and walking off the mound to the dugout. Didn't have my best stuff. We'll get 'em next time. Nothing was really all that bad... I was just in a tired, cold-y, where-is-my-life-going, and-why-the-fuck-does-it-lead-through-Phoenix kind of mood. Worrying about things like "How will I pay my bills during the 6 months of STEP when I won't have time to hold a job?" and "Christ, will I really be 28 when this is all said and done?" and "What imperialist regime will be running this country at that point," and furthermore "Should I be teaching myself to speak German as well as to work on their cars, just in case?" Anyway, younger Dave would have not realized that he would probably not feel the same way tomorrow, and would likely have rushed out to buy some ridiculous car on credit in order to flee to a more home-like state and attempt to reconcile with an ex-girlfriend. Older Dave? He stumbles through the day, tops off his paid-for car's tranny fluid (having now seen the insides of a transmission, I have renewed respect for their need for lubrication), cooks tomorrow's lunch, goes to bed, gets up in the morning and goes to fucking work. End of fucking list! |

Monday, May 24, 2004"God, I wish Weird Science were real. Then we could make three Elisha Cuthberts" - SeanI didn't get much sleep last night, so I was walking around like a zombie all day. Work went by so fast I hardly noticed I was there, and at school I rebuilt a 5 speed four wheel drive transmission without even realizing I was doing it. I then fell asleep in class while we were supposed to be drawing giant pictures of gear clusters on butcher paper (hello from the third grade, everyone!). The direct drive kid bombarded me with more asinine questions, apparently unaware I was trying to sleep. Hence, I have to get to bed. |

Sunday, May 23, 2004I was dorking around on the internet this morning, and I checked out some stats on this site. I couldn't help but notice that the site traffic has declined steadily since I started blogging in March. This was illustrated on a handy bar graph. I assume that if this graph were compared to a graph of the blog's increasing suckiness, they would be inversely proportional to one another. Sure, I could dress things up with more pictures, and maybe some polls or something, but that's all just window dressing. Isn't an excruciatingly dull report on the lives of three reluctant Arizonans enough for you people? What more do you want? Actually, I have been reading other blogs more lately, like Deann's blog, Life in the Pink, and Jennaishealed (this last one tracks the recovery of the wife of a guy who runs a BMW 2002 website I frequent; she was involved in a near-fatal SUV vs. small car accident that prompted my preaching about buying a big Toyota a couple weeks ago). Reading these has made me realize that this blog is probably written too much like a report to be very interesting. Still, I'm not really sure what else to write about. Most days are pretty much the same. So anyway, I'm not going to stop doing this any time soon, but if anyone out there who reads this has any suggestions on how I can make this better, I'd love to hear them. There's a link on the left that'll direct you to my email. |
